Sunday School is a brand new concept for most churches in Ecuador and throughout South America. IF a church does have Sunday School or Children's Church, that usually means that the kids gather and sing a few songs. This isn't because no one WANTS to teach the children, it is simply because they don't have the resources or training to know WHAT to do. The Lynch Family (missionaries to South America) are working to change this by offering curriculum & training. You can partner with them to help plant a children's church.

Fighting Child Labor in Ecuador" />The Faces Ministry was founded in 2003 by Church of God Missionaries, Teresa & Dan Susong. Teresa began talking to the shoe shine boys and child candy sellers wandering the streets in Quito, Ecuador, and soon discovered they were working simply to help their poor Indian families survive. Most had dropped out of school due to lack of funds and the stigma of being from Ecuador’s lowest class, the Quichua Indians. With no budget to begin a project, the Susongs, along with two other families, began meeting with the children to feed them a hot meal, teach them the word of God, and show them love and respect.

Child labor in Ecuador is is no small problem. The Ecuadorian government say’s that out of a country population of 13 million 1 million are working children.

Currently, the Ministry Center offers a full range of services to children and adolescents who have immigrated to the city to work, teaching them about children’s rights, and offering them hope through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Service Areas:

Physical: Hot nutritious meals, Rest and play area, Hot showers, Clothing and Shoes, Medical and dental services

Emotional: Spiritual counseling, Psychological Services, Ministry to the entire family

Spiritual: Daily devotional and prayer, Worship service each Saturday

Intellectual: Reinsertion into the educational system

Social: Fun, games, and a safe place to come off the streets and “ just be a child…”

Sharing GOD and HIS LOVE – teaching a moral value system – providing role models for the boys and girls – home visitations – one on one counseling – intervention in abuse or neglect situation – substance abuse prevention – sharing life skills: etiquette, banking, filing out job applications, and community service – helping welfare mothers make a transition from welfare to jobs – changing lives,
- SUMMER CAMP
- BACK TO SCHOOL SUPPLIES
- THANKSGIVING BASKETS
- CHRISTMAS STOCKING, and
- CHRISTMAS TOYS! In 2004 we will distribute over 3,500 presents to needy children.

Last year these activities created approximately $225,000 in operating expenses. That money was generated from the mailing list of 2,200 individual donors who are kept up to date on the needs of the ministry and of the children through a monthly newsletter. Itinerating at local church Sunday Services helps to generate interest and funds.

WHERE WE’RE HEADING

The community is always first place! What has been accomplished on a relatively small scale is sorely needed in a larger dimension. Kids Konnection has been part of the public housing community for over 20 years and now we are expanding with additional services to our youth. The Gatepost was purchased as a signal to our city that we plan to continue reaching out to the young and underserved. With that permanence, comes commitment to make available more resources to help our neighbors fulfill God’s plan for their lives. Job skills, a teen worship center, and food service training will reflect God’s love for each individual. A cyber cafe is soon to be part of the ministry as a entrepreneur training center for urban youth.

NEEDS-NEEDS-NEEDS

STAFFING: We are in need of permanent and volunteer staffing to visit the homes of the children and to help with the operation of a Sidewalk Sunday School. We also need mentors, keyboard musicians, and teachers are needed.

FINANCIAL :
Financial support on a monthly basis is needed to meet our general operating expenses Restoring our new buildings to establish the cyber café is needed in the amount of $250,000
A new truck and new van is needed to take the Good News to the children.

The ministry of Casa Hogar Alfa y Omega has been operating for over 15 years. What began as a ministry to touch kids who were living under a bridge, near the center of the town, has developed into a ministry of compassion, reaching out to the city of Poza Rica, in the state of Vera Cruz, Mexico.

Under the guidance of Elias and Teresa Herrera, who have been given the mandate by God, the orphanage has seen tremendous progress over the last ten years. Beginning in the Sunday school classrooms of the church where Pastor Elias served as pastor, property was purchased with funds raised by single adults in the Church of God under the direction of John Vining. That property has been developed into a beautiful campus on the side of a mountain. First came a dormitory in which all children were housed. Then, a home was built for the director and his family. Following this, a dormitory was built for the girls, leaving the original dorm to serve the boys. As the ministry continued to grow, the need to prepare for the education of the children was exposed. Many of the children have had special problems, suffering mental, physical, and sexual abuse. This has resulted in very limited educational opportunities for them. A two story Christian school to service the children at the orphanage was built, with a prayer tower on the top of the building. Nearly 70 children live at the orphanage now. The Church of God has a lot to be proud of! Thanks to the sacrifice of many folks by giving of funds, time, energy, and labor, there has been significant progress! The ministry is recognized in the community as a valid resource for needy children.

How do they survive financially? They walk by faith, dependent upon the Lord for daily provision. The monthly sponsorship program provides a limited amount of income. Businesses in the area provide tortillas and food. God has honored their faith!

Children’s ministry leaders, under the auspices of the Church of God Department of Youth and Christian Education have accepted the call to help, by giving and going, showing their love. Three times per year, teams of children, youth, and adults travel to the orphanage to work and minister.
